FEBRUARY

 

1st (Mon) Curation Group A good opportunity to explore the society’s historic collections as we continue to curate (tidy up, clean, record etc.) them. We are starting with our Minerals Collection.   10.30am to 12.30pm

2nd (Tue) Victorian Microscope Slide Evening Rare and previously unseen slides from the society’s extensive archives will be on display and viewed using a micro-projector.    MICROSCOPY

3rd  (Wed) Cornwall Cup Natural History competition. Three projected images, slide and/or digital images of nature.   Round 2 of 3       8.00pm start.   PHOTOGRAPHY

4th (Thu) Section AGM. After a short formal meeting we will be studying some more of our Section slide collection.   BOTANY

6th (Sat) Bedford, where we can opt for a riverside walk, take a look at one of their three museums (the Cecil Higgins, Bunyan or the Town) or just browse among the varied and busy market stalls! Meet in the bus station for bus SC Pluto 1 at 10.30am,*.  Lunch available.   SATURDAY WALKS

8th (Mon) CCD Cameras.  Karen Holland will provide us with an update to how far this hugely interesting field has moved over the last few years   ASTRONOMY

10th (Wed) Instant Digital Image Battle with Northampton Camera Club A fun annual competition featuring interesting and varied digital images with a witty commentary by the judge Brian Pere from Duston Camera Club   8.00pm start.   PHOTOGRAPHY

11th (Thu) Section AGM followed by a talk on Northampton Mill by Fred Towning, the general section president.    2.30pm start    GENERAL

13th (Sat) Delapre Abbey is the walk today to see the snowdrops in the gardens. Meet in the bus station for bus SC 15 at 1.40pm,*. Tea available in the tearooms.   SATURDAY WALKS

14th (Sun) Weather Workshop. We will discuss the weather events and trends of the last month, and look forward to next month’s weather.   2.30pm start.   METEORLOGY

17th (Wed) Open House The rooms will be open for members and guests to look at the library books, magazines and exhibits. Tea, coffee, soup and light lunches available.           10.30am-2.30pm

17th (Wed) Practical Evening: Portrait Evening Bring your camera and tripod for this practical evening led by our own lighting and portrait expert Vic Seaton who will guide us through lighting and posing of the model.       8.00pm start.   PHOTOGRAPHY

18th (Thu) Section AGM & “Bring and Show” A chance to bring samples or images of rocks, minerals, or fossils etc to show us and either tell us about them or ask for help with identification.    GEOLOGY

20th (Sat) Today we go to East Hunsbury for a walk in the woodlands and snowdrops. Meet in the bus station for bus SC 14 at 1.35pm,*.  Tea available.   SATURDAY WALKS

22nd (Mon) Telescopic Topics. Section members can showcase their interests and results. With a chance to discuss observations, events and theories over a cup of tea and biscuits.   ASTRONOMY

23rd (Tue) Section AGM and finger buffet (£1) followed by a slide presentation by Dawn Lovitt covering a selection of Cathedrals and Castles.   ARCHAEOLOGY & HISTORY

24th  (Wed)  Section   AGM        8.00pm start.     PHOTOGRAPHY

25th (Thu) Mountain Gorillas a presentation featuring these iconic mammals.  2.30pm start   ZOOLOGY

27th (Sat) Towcester is the venue today which is a favourite amongst the walkers. We will take a stroll alongside the brook after having lunch in the town. Meet in the bus station for bus SC 88 at 11.20am,*.   SATURDAY WALKS
