NNHS Website Guidlines, v01
23rd May 2010

1) Personal information

1a) Where possible I have removed personal information (email, telephone, etc...) from the website.

1b) The reasons are threefold: - privacy (data protection) - spam-avoidance - I have been specifically requested to do so

1c) Contact Us forms appear on most pages which allow contact to be made without the divulgence of any NNHS email address.

2) Programme updates

2a) I will update the programme database as and when I receive new programme information.

2b) I will upload the pdf version of the new programme onto the downloads page

3) Special events (section related)

3a) Events that are special, relate to a particular section, and are not one of the ordinary meetings will receive an individual mention on the section splashpage.

3b) If a poster is received prior to the event, then I will create a page displaying the poster.

3c) Images of the event should be uploaded by the section president/secretary to the NNHS Gallery directly where an event album can be created. This requires no involvement of the webmaster.

3d) If I receive a text description post-event, I will happily create a page for this event, and use images from the gallery as appropriate, and will put in a link to the gallery album.

4) Special events (non-section related)

4a) Events that are not section related (e.g. President's evening, society outings, etc...) will receive an individual mention on the homepage.

4b) If a poster is received prior to the event, then I will create a page displaying the poster.

4c) Images of the event will be sent by email to the webmaster, who is managing the non-section NNHS gallery. The images will be uploaded to the gallery by the webmaster.

4d) If I receive a text description post-event, I will happily create a page for this event, and use images from the gallery as appropriate, and will put in a link to the gallery album.

5) Section page updates

5a) If I receive a request for updates to a section I will prioritise the item based on the following factors: i) whether it is an impending event or something far into the future ii) whether it is a major or minor change

5b) I'll get round to items as and when I am able based on relative priority.

6) Upload of images

6a) The NNHS Gallery is there for individuals and more specifically section heads to upload their own images to the website without resorting to going via a sometimes grumpy webmaster.

6b) Usernames and passwords will be given on request.

6c) I have a set of easy-to-follow isntructions that I will send with the above.

6d) Section heads should limit the filesize so as to maximise the use of webspace.

6e) As a guide, images shouldn't be more than 250kB each, thus allowing more than 40 images per 10MB server space.

6f) If we start to run out of server space, I will see if any efficiencies can be made and approach the appropriate section head accordingly.

7) Faulty webpages

7a) If I receive a note stating that a webpage is non-functional or has formatting issues I will look into this as a priority above all other items listed above.

7b) The more description of the problem I receive the better.

7c) Specific information should include, where possible: i) a screen grab of the offending page ii) a description of the problem, being as precise as possible to help me pinpoint the issue.

8) There is no item 8

:-) (for now)
