The skies are dark, Christmas is nearly here and it’s time to round off another year of astronomy in suitably festive style!
Join us for a relaxed and decidedly less serious evening as we look back at the astronomical highlights, observations, adventures and occasional mishaps of 2026 – including August’s memorable solar eclipse.
Then we’ll turn our telescopes metaphorically towards 2027. There’s plenty to look forward to, not least another solar eclipse on 2 August 2027, plus meteor showers, planets and plenty of other night-sky highlights worth putting in your diary.
Expect plenty of audience participation, Christmas treats, astronomy chat, laughter and general hilarity as we bring the year to a close.
Experienced astronomer, complete beginner or simply curious about the night sky – everyone is welcome.
Christmas jumpers entirely optional. Festive cheer guaranteed. Clear skies… absolutely not guaranteed!
And finally…
We planned for a wonderful night,
With planets and stars shining bright,
But the clouds gathered fast,
So observing was passed…
And the mince pies soon vanished from sight!
