Discover the fascinating hidden world of lichens under the microscope in this friendly, hands-on practical session led by Liv.
Lichens may look simple, but they are remarkable organisms formed through a partnership between a fungus and an alga. Found on trees, walls, rocks and buildings, their intricate structures, colours and textures become even more fascinating when viewed through a microscope.
Bring along a few small lichen samples if you can and have a go at preparing and examining them yourself. Never tried microscopy before? No problem at all. Our experienced members will be on hand to help you use the microscopes, prepare specimens and discover what you’re looking at.
A great introduction to microscopy, lichens, fungi and natural history for complete beginners as well as experienced microscopists.
Guests, beginners and non-members are very welcome.
