The Weather, Meteorology and Climate Section of the NNHS meets once a month on the first Sunday, bringing together everyone with an interest in the ever-changing sky above us and the powerful forces that shape our planet’s climate.

From gentle summer breezes to dramatic winter storms, from local rainfall patterns to global climate systems, the Section explores the science behind the weather we experience every day. Our meetings delve into topics such as cloud formation, forecasting techniques, extreme weather events, historical weather records, and the longer-term patterns that influence climate change. Whether you are fascinated by thunderclouds, intrigued by isobars on a weather chart, or concerned about the future of our planet’s climate, there is always something to discover.

Through illustrated talks, lively discussion and the sharing of observations, members gain a deeper understanding of both the beauty and complexity of the atmosphere. We look at how modern technology satellites, radar and computer modelling helps meteorologists predict the weather, while also reflecting on historical records and local data that reveal how Northamptonshire’s climate has changed over time.
