Interested in photography in Northampton? Looking for a Northamptonshire camera club? Our Photography Section welcomes photographers of all abilities, from beginners looking to improve their skills to experienced photographers wanting to share their knowledge.Photography has been part of NNHS since 1876, making us the longest-established photographic society in Northamptonshire.

Today, our Photography Section brings together people who simply enjoy taking pictures, sharing ideas and learning more about photography.

Everyone is welcome at our meetings at the Humfrey Rooms in Northampton, from complete beginners picking up a camera for the first time to experienced photographers keen to develop and share their skills. You don’t need specialist equipment or technical knowledge – just an interest in photography and a willingness to give it a try.

Visitors can attend up to three meetings before deciding whether to become a member. One NNHS membership gives you access to meetings and activities across all our Sections, so your interests don’t have to stop at photography.

The Photography Section meets every Wednesday evening at the Humfrey Rooms in Northampton.

Doors open at 7.45pm, giving everyone time to catch up, talk photography and share ideas before the meeting begins at 8.00pm.

Our programme covers both the creative and technical sides of photography, from composition, lighting and image-making to camera techniques, lenses, exposure, processing and digital editing. Meetings include talks, demonstrations, practical sessions, competitions and opportunities to see and discuss members’ work, as well as presentations from visiting photographers.

Whether you use a DSLR or mirrorless camera, enjoy traditional film photography or simply take photographs on your phone, there is always more to discover.

Experienced photographers can exchange ideas and techniques, while those just starting out can learn at their own pace and get practical advice from people who are happy to share their knowledge.

Photography is ultimately about making images, not owning the latest equipment, so whatever you use to take your photographs, you’ll be very welcome.

Our aim is simple: to help everyone improve their photography and, just as importantly, to enjoy it. We share skills, ideas and creative approaches through a varied programme of informal talks, live demonstrations, practical workshops and friendly competitions. While there is a strong emphasis on digital photography from image capture to processing and final display, we proudly embrace the full spectrum of photographic practice.

Members’ interests span portraiture, pictorial and abstract work, natural history, landscapes, sport and more. We explore everything from composition and lighting to post-processing techniques, printing and presentation. Traditional monochrome and colour printing sit comfortably alongside digital imaging, projection and inkjet printing old and new technologies inspiring each other.

Above all, we are a friendly and supportive group. New members are warmly welcomed, ideas are freely shared, and every stage of the photographic journey is valued. Whether you want to refine your technique, try something new, or simply spend an evening among fellow enthusiasts who love making images, you’ll find a creative home with us.
