Zoology and Ornithology Section

Interested in wildlife and the animal world? Our Zoology & Ornithology Section brings together people who enjoy discovering more about animals and birds, from the wildlife of Northamptonshire and familiar garden visitors to fascinating species from around the world.

We meet monthly at the Humfrey Rooms in Northampton to explore the remarkable variety of animal life, its behaviour, ecology and conservation.

Each meeting features an illustrated talk exploring a different aspect of zoology, ornithology and the natural world. Speakers include knowledgeable NNHS members and visiting specialists, bringing their research, field experiences, discoveries and expertise to the Humfrey Rooms.

The subjects are wonderfully varied. One month you might discover more about the birds and wildlife of Northamptonshire; the next could take you beneath the oceans, into the world of insects and reptiles, or much further afield to explore remarkable species and wildlife conservation projects around the world.

There is always something different to discover – and often something that changes the way you look at the wildlife around you.

Whether you enjoy birdwatching, wildlife photography, natural history or simply want to know more about the animals we share our world with, you’ll be very welcome. Come along to listen, learn, ask questions and meet others who share your interest in wildlife.

You don’t need to be a member or have any specialist knowledge – curiosity is enough. Visitors are welcome to attend up to three meetings before deciding whether to join.

One NNHS membership gives you access to meetings and activities across all our Sections, so an interest in birds or wildlife might just lead you to discover something completely new.

Meetings begin at 2:30pm, and visitors as well as members are warmly welcomed. Come along and explore the remarkable diversity of the animal world with us.
