Come and take a closer look at some of the fascinating natural history collections cared for by the Northamptonshire Natural History Society.
Our collections cover an extraordinary range of subjects, including butterflies and other insects, shells, sands, microscope slides, rocks and minerals, as well as an important collection of Northamptonshire fossils and other local natural history specimens.
This is a relaxed, hands-on opportunity to explore items that you might not normally get the chance to see up close. Spend time studying the specimens, make sketches or notes, take a closer look through a microscope, or simply come along and appreciate their variety, detail and beauty.
You don’t need to be an expert or have any specialist knowledge – curiosity is more than enough! Members will be on hand to talk about the collections and some of the stories behind them.
We’re also keen to hear from anyone interested in helping us care for the collections. There are opportunities to get involved with conservation, cataloguing, photographing and documenting specimens, helping us preserve this fascinating record of natural history for the future.
Visitors and non-members are very welcome to come along and discover what’s hidden away in the Society’s collections.
